Rachel Platten (born May 20, 1981)[1] is an American pop singer-songwriter best known for her 2011 single "1,000 Ships", which peaked to number 24 Billboard Adult Top 40 chart,[2] and her 2015 single "Fight Song", which has made it to number 17 on the Billboard Adult Top 40 chart, 25 on the Australian Singles Chart and has since reached number 71 on the Billboard Hot 100.
2003–12: Trust in Me and Be Here[edit]
She released her debut studio album Trust in Me in 2003.[4] Her second album, Be Here, was released from Rock Ridge Music in 2011.[5] An earlier song, "Seven Weeks", was used for the film The Good Guy.[6] Her single "Work of Art" was also used as the intro to the television series, Jane by Design, which ran on the ABC Family network in 2011–12.[7] Her song "Begin Again" was used in the 100th episode of the hit ABC Family TV show Pretty Little Liars, titled "Miss Me x100".[8]
2015–present[edit]
She is now signed to Columbia Records, and in the spring of 2015 released the single "Fight Song" (co-written by Platten and producer Dave Bassett) from her upcoming album. The song is a midtempo anthemic pop song, a self-affirmation song whose music is stylistically in the vein of such top pop artists Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson and Taylor Swift. The song was used in the Christmas episode of Pretty Little Liars ' fifth season.[9] She released the news to her fans through a Facebook post that read, "To every single person that's ever believed in me, to every mile that I've driven across the country, you made this moment that much sweeter. Proud to have just signed to Columbia Records. Time to spread the love."[10]
